Mental, physical, or sexual abuse in close personal relationships commonly results in trauma that is very different from the trauma of accidents, illness, or war. Making creative use of attachment theory to explicate the multifaceted outcomes of trauma, this book provides a powerful conceptual framework and a concise, masterly review of a huge knowledge base. Encyclopedic in scope and scholarly in its up-to-the-minute survey of research findings.

Traumatic Relationships and Serious Mental Disorders

Extremely comprehensive in explaining how trauma reactions develop, the different ways they are manifest and essential elements needed in treatment. The author obviously has had extensive experience working with survivors of repeated/ chronic childhood trauma. The only things I would change would be to have a little less info on brain chemistry and animal behavioral studies and a little more info on treatment issues. But the book is highly readable, interesting and very informative. I also like that the author does not lean heavily on case studies. In this way, it reads a little more like a textbook (again, which I prefer).

Good information. It was very informative. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to get some basic information. It is to comprehensive though. Just an overview
