Adult Psychotherapy Homework Planner

These assignments are a wonderful adjunct to the therapy process. They are very down-to-earth and practical -- no off-the-wall stuff here, just common sense, mainline psychology applied to everyday life circumstances. They are not too long so the client will be more apt to complete them. The exercises are focused on common presenting problems (Anger Management, Chemical Dependence, Depression, Sexual Dysfunction, Intimate Relationship Conflict, etc.) and they can be copied directly from the book or customized on your computer and printed from the CD that is included. If you are using The Complete Adult Psychotherapy Treatment Planner to formulate your client's treatment plan, these asignments are fully integrated with the presenting problems in the Treatment Planner book. I also like the fact that these assignments can be accessed in TheraScribe, the computerized treatment planning software, if you purchase the additional module that can be installed into the program. These Practice Planner materials save a lot of time and enhance the treatment process. You will not be disappointed.

it helps when clients that want to make changes in their lifes can see in frount of them work they are doing to make that change. my therapist didn't provide me with homework, so i went out and got my own! i think homework should be a part of every therapy duration. even if you give them a sheet and tell them they can do it when they are ready, just to leave it on there coffee table or some other place they can see it a lot and so they can think about the questions, and then they can do it at their own pace and when they are done and ready to discusse it they can bring it back.

  • Examines the stances that girls on a playground in a multicultural school setting assume and shows how they position themselves in their peer groups
  • Documents the language practices and degradation rituals used to sanction friends and to bully others

Wow.. Kids are brats... and Goodwin sure tells us a lot about children in this interesting anthropological look at brats on the playground. The kids she observes clearly have a severe pecking order. Girls bully and belittle boys, boys retaliate, etc. I guess though, it shows you one thing after you read it, people really do never change!

This is a great book though if you are interested in the topic of anthropology, fieldwork, or studies involving children and conversational analysis. There is a lot of insight, and its good if you want to do this kind of fieldwork to see how someone else performed it. The interviews and interactions are quite telling.

"The authors . . . make child-centered play therapy readily understandable to those who wish to take advantage of its long history of helping children overcome problems and grow emotionally to a level of maturity difficult to achieve by any other approach."
From the Foreword, by Louise F. Guerney, PhD, RPT-S

A comprehensive resource that thoroughly teaches the theory, methods, and practice of child-centered play therapy

Child-Centered Play Therapy: A Practical Guide to Developing Therapeutic Relationships with Children offers how-to direction and practical advice for conducting child-centered play therapy. Filled with case studies, learning activities, and classroom exercises, this book presents extensive coverage of play therapy applications such as setting goals and treatment planning, as well as recommendations for family and systemic services that can be provided along with play therapy.

This rich resource provides:

  • A thorough introduction to the theory and guiding principles underlying child-centered play therapy

  • Skill guidance including structuring sessions, tracking, empathy, responding to children's questions, and role-play

  • Effective ways of determining what limits to set in the playroom and how to set them in a therapeutically effective manner

  • Clear methods for monitoring children's progress through stages as well as external measures of progress

  • Practical guidance in adjunct therapist tasks such as playroom set-up, documentation, ending therapy, and working with parents, teachers, and principals

Endorsed by Louise Guerney—a founding child-centered play therapy figure who developed the skills-based methods covered in this book—Child-Centered Play Therapy comprehensively and realistically introduces practitioners to the child-centered approach to play therapy and addresses how to incorporate the approach into schools, agencies, or private practice.

Child-Centered Play Therapy: A Practical Guide to Developing Therapeutic Relationships with Children

The book provides a thorough understanding of the benefits of Child-Centered Play Therapy and the tools for learning the technique, such as examples of tracking, empathic responding, role plays, and responding to questions or commands. I highly recommend this textbook for mental health professionals and parents. The child-centered approach has proven to be highly effective in the growth and development of children. A chapter on Filial Therapy is included to help parents provide special therapeutic playtime at home.
By M. Coene
Rarely have I encountered a textbook that is so easy to read as well as extremely educational. By the time I finished reading this book, I felt extremely enlightened on the topic of Child-Centered Play Therapy and I also felt comfortable attempting the strategies outlined in the text. The authors make a very compelling argument for CCPT and answer any concerns a skeptic might have about their approach. The flow of the chapters is logical and helpful and the examples provided in each chapter greatly augment the respective concepts. I highly recommend this book for anyone who is considering working with children in any capacity, two thumbs up!
