- Chapter format provides a general introduction, a description of functional deficits, assessment methods, CBT solutions to the problem, and a template for group delivery

This is a valuable resource that I used for developing my group intervention for adults with ADHD. Lots of practical stuff. Well organized. The authors obviously have strong experience helping people with ADHD. Other books give more detail about the underlying mechanisms and supporting research, but I don't think that you want to get bogged down in that when teaching to a room full of ADHD-ers. I was disappointed in the website that is mentioned throughout the book. I expected powerpoint slides for each module but it just has copies of the tables from the book and many in a weird Microsoft format that I couldn't read with my Mac. Many of the slides are from the previous edition. As of August, 2012, the publisher had not updated the site with the latest slides. But don't let that stop you. This is the best resource I have seen for teaching ADHD coping skills to adults.By Russell Thompson

In this second edition, Susan Young and Jessica Bramham extend CBT strategies for ADHD from adults to adolescents.By Gina Pera
The introductory material explains the diagnosis, a cognitive-behavioral model of ADHD, and evidence for psychological interventions. (Prior to that are well-worth-reading forewords from top ADHD experts Margaret Weiss, M.D., Ph.D., and Sam Goldstein, Ph.D..).
Next comes an explanation of the Young-Bramham programme (the authors are UK-based), including components such as psychoeducation, motivational interviewing, cognitive reframing of the past, and behavioral techniques.
From there, the book is organized in one set of modules for managing the core symptoms (attention, memory, organization, and impulsivity) and another for comorbid and associated problems (problem-solving, interpersonal relationships, anxiety, frustration and anger, low mood and depression, sleep, and substance misuse).
This module approach is helpfully pragmatic because individuals with ADHD are just that: individuals. And they experience variable symptoms of this highly variable condition. Instead of having to wade through narrative that might not apply to an individual, the clinician or lay reader can turn to the relevant trouble spots.
This guide, along with Mary Solanto's Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult ADHD: Targeting Executive Dysfunction and Ramsay/Rostain's Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Adult ADHD: An Integrative Psychosocial and Medical Approach (Practical Clinical Guidebooks), greatly enrich the resources available to clinicians seeking to help individuals affected by adults with ADHD and their loved ones.
